Tourmakeady lies some 20 miles south of Westport, on the western shores of Lough Mask, itself a spectacular vista with its many small islands. Lough Mask joins with Lough Na Fuaithe to the south. The Partry Mountains rise majestically in the west, and Anach Mor Bog to the north completes a location that exemplifies the beauty of rural Ireland.
More breathtaking scenery can be discovered in the nearby Millennium Forest, with its magnificent waterfall, often featured in
magazines, (and wedding albums). Visitors can drive to a car park; then it is a kilometre walk through the woods to the waterfall.

What makes Toumakeady even more special is it lies within the largest gaelic speaking (Gaeltacht) region in Ireland, thus preserving tradition and heritage.
Its population of approximately 1,000 people are served by the atypical shop/post office/pub in the centre of the village, and local employment is provided by the Gaeltarra Knitwear and Killateeaun Perfume factories. | ![]() |
