THE ART OF TREVOR O'REILLY
With
clan origins to Granard, from County Longford, Trevor's
forebears emigrated to New York, USA in the 1850's. His father was born
there, but later left the States, to settle in Yorkshire, where Trevor
was born and raised.
Trevor
moved south, to spend most of his life in Oxfordshire, until 2005, when
he, and his wife, Gilly, herself quite a dab hand with a brush and
palette, moved to the land of his roots, to reside just outside of
Newport in
Co. Mayo.
In a purpose-built studio, many happy hours were
spent developing his skills.
They returned to their home in
England in 2009 where Trevor continued his passion. However, his health took a turn for the worse, and he regrettably died of cancer in May 2011.
A lover of colour, his
work was wide-ranging, from portraits, land and seascapes, to abstract. He experimented all the time, combining abstraction and
realism, but always creating a fusion of styles.
For
most of his work, he used acrylic paints, but was equally skilled with
pastels, watercolours, in fact, any medium, especially encaustic, which
is a technique using melted wax.
Below are some examples of his work appropriate to this Westerly Visions website, All are available to purchase, unless otherwise indicated.
